USAID Vietnam Supports Event Marking International Day Against Homophobia

HANOI, May 17,2011 -- Representatives of Viet Nam's community of men who have sex with men joined hands today with government, civil society and international organizations to raise awareness on the stigma, discrimination and violence faced by homosexual and transgender people in Vietnam, in commemoration of the International Day Against Homophobia.

Vietnam and Korea Launch Twinning Partnership to Strengthen Contaminated Soil Monitoring

HANOI, March 28, 2011 -- From March 21 to 24, experts from Ministry of Environment of Korea, Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute and Korea Environment Cooperation met with counterparts from Vietnam to initiate a program of cooperation on contaminated soil management. At the scoping mission, Korean and Vietnamese experts exchange views on legal and policy frameworks to promote effective soil monitoring for suspected contaminated areas. As for the next step, a delegation from Vietnam led by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam will visit Korea to learn first-hand about innovative practices on contaminated soil monitoring as an important step in their development of new guidelines for conducting soil monitoring of possible contaminated areas for Vietnam. This partnership has been facilitated by the USAID-supported Asian Environmental Compliance and Enforcement Network.

World TB Day event highlights public-private mix activities for TB control

HAI PHONG, March 24, 2011-- The Hai Phong Provincial Health Department today celebrated the achievements and scale up of public-private mix (PPM) activities to support the Stop TB Strategy in Vietnam. The event, which coincides with World TB Day, brought together public- and private-sector partners to discuss expansion of PPM activities for improving TB case detection and treatment in Hai Phong, as well as to celebrate the successful collaboration and progress seen so far.

2010 Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) launched in Vietnam

HANOI, March 16, 2011 -- The 2010 Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) was released today, representing the views of 7,300 Vietnamese enterprises. According to the sixth PCI survey, enterprises indicate notable improvements in labor training and business support services, but declines in business entry costs, access to land, legal institutions, transparency, and time costs reveal increased compliance burdens on the private sector.

USAID's Promotion Toolkit Helps Expand Access to Piped Water in Hanoi

HANOI, March 12, 2011 -- The Son Tay district of Hanoi today launched a water services promotion campaign to expand access to piped water with assistance from USAID.  The promotion campaign, which was developed and implemented with help from Son Tay's Women Union and CEFACOM, a local nongovernment organization, used the USAID ECO-Asia project's 10-step promotion program toolkit to raise awareness of piped water's benefits among the local community.  The organizers credited the toolkit with the successful planning of the campaign by helping develop relevant promotion materials that appealed to the Son Tay community.  Of the 150 people joining the launch, approximately 50 signed a commitment to increase the use of piped water and promote environmental hygiene.
