USAID/Vietnam: A Growing Development Partnership

Through its activities since 2000, USAID has worked with the Government of Vietnam to help speed up the country's transition to an open, market-based economy, increase prevention and treat cases of HIV/AIDS, improve vulnerable groups' access to educational and other social services, and ensure that environmental governance progresses along with economic and social development. In total, USAID has contributed over $200 million for relief and development activities in Vietnam.

HANOI, November 20, 2009 -- A new U.S. Government project to help boost Vietnam's capacity to detect, prevent and control avian and pandemic influenza in animals and humans officially launched its activities this week at an inception workshop in Hanoi.

The Avian and Pandemic Influenza Initiative, funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), builds on four years of U.S. support in Vietnam for avian and pandemic influenza programming and will work in close collaboration with the Government of Vietnam, other partners such as the Food and Agricultural Organization and the World Health Organization, to implement a coordinated avian and pandemic influenza program for Vietnam.

HANOI, November 16, 2009 -- The U.S. government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is providing $250,000 to the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies for relief efforts to aid victims affected by flooding from Typhoon Mirinae.

U.S. Supports ‘Three Good Things’ Media Campaign for Influenza Prevention

HANOI, Vietnam, November 13, 2009 - The United States Government is supporting Vietnam's provincial officials in a new a mass media and social mobilization campaign reaching out to three million farmers and others working in the local poultry trade to share best practices in preventing and controlling avian and human influenza.

HANOI, October 22, 2009 -- The U.S. government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is providing $150,000 to Save the Children to support relief efforts for victims of typhoon Ketsana. Late last month, Ketsana slammed into Vietnam's central highlands displacing nearly 200,000 people and claiming 163 lives. This funding brings the total U.S. government support for typhoon victims in Vietnam this year to $750,000.
